Full Episode Transcription (not edited):

Stuff stuff. The amount of times I hear the word stuff in terms of my house is a mess there’s stuff everywhere. We have too much stuff. There’s stuff all over the place. My kids have too much stuff. The stuff that you were referring to. Is stressing you out. It’s causing a block in your drive to get going, and it’d be motivated to get things done and to really begin the work to. Ever get to that point of an organized home. We are all worthy of an orderly and organized home that functions for our families and allows us to feel good and really relax in our own house. Beginning that journey is often the most difficult part

The questions that I receive that are similar to this question about having too much stuff. And where do I even start it? The idea that it seems too overwhelming and you can’t figure out where to begin the organizing process. these questions are so frequent. I can’t even tell you how many times people are asking this. And I answered this question the same way over and over again. When I read these questions where I listened to the messages, I hear frustration in your voices. I hear that you are overwhelmed and I feel that you are overwhelmed, tired, exhausted, and really at your wits in your really, truly trying to figure out how to stop because you’re struggling.

You’re struggling with the belonging is that have taken over. When we have too much stuff. It [00:02:00] really does feel like all of these physical objects, all of the belongings, all of the things that we own are taking over our house, it has gotten to a point and it feels like it’s out of control. And that’s what you get to this place where you are fed up with too much stuff. You know, there is simply too much stuff and there is a lack of order and a lack of organization.

And you don’t have a plan to maintain all of this, but simply. There there’s too much, there is an overabundance and as much as this sucks and as much as you feel that that struggle, that struggle, you are feeling it is a real. And I understand because I work with clients. On a daily basis. That are in this place that want to move past this and get to a better place and remove the clutter. And that’s exactly what we do. that’s exactly why you are here listening to this, whether this is the first episode you’ve listened to. Or you’re a longtime listener, you know, there’s a better place to be, you know, your home can function for your family. You know, it doesn’t have to be overwhelming at home. You know, you don’t have to be surrounded by all of these things that feel like, or that are making you feel like you are suffocating. When. We go back to this place where you are right now, where you’re struggling. Yes, it sucks. It’s a crappy place to be. But it’s a great place to be. If you are willing to put forth the effort and to take the next step. When you choose to take that next step and move forward, that means you’re taking action. And when you take action, that results in you being closer to the end of goal, you’re closer to that end result of a home that has less clutter, and you can be that mom or that way for that friend. That is a less spur out. You’re less grouchy. You’re less crabby all the time because you’re taking care and you have created a home environment that lets you unwind and relax and feel[00:04:00] good. with the right systems in place and the right decluttering, your home functions with a lot less effort. So you could remove some of that decision fatigue and that removes so much of that overwhelm. the question that came in today said there’s stuff all over my house and it’s actually everywhere I pick up and there it is again, where do I begin? So there isn’t stuff all over any more. when I read that question, that’s why I have honed in on this word stuff. For the episode today, you might be sick of hearing me say it already, but the stuff I’m referring to is the physical belongings. Materialistic type things that are sitting in your home. They’re on your counters. They’re on the floor. They’re on the sofa. They’re on the beds. They’re taking up the space in your cupboards cabinets, in the drawers, on the shelves. Everywhere you look, there are these items and belongings. And when you really think about it, and when you’re at this place where you are struggling, you really wonder why you even have some of this stuff anymore. If you’ve been listening for a long time to the intentional edit podcast, you know exactly what I’m going to say. When a question comes in like this, you know what the answer is to the starting point, because I will continue to say the same thing over and over because I’ve seen it work. I see it work every single day, whether I am actually working with you as a one-on-one client in a coaching session, or if you are enrolled in a course and you’re working through your courses and the feedback I am getting. Getting is when you put in the work, you get the results. So, what do you think I’m going to say? What do you think that magic answer is? It’s not going to be that you have to get organized. It’s not the organizing is what you need. You have to start with decluttering. You, you want to get organized and the organizing comes, but you have to remove everything. First. The answer is decluttering. Purging. Get those unwanted items out of your home. You have to remove them when you have too [00:06:00] much stuff or you are in a situation where the thing is in your home.

The things that you own do not have a place in your home. Sometimes I say things need. Uh, home, everything in your house needs a home. It’s a home within a home. Every item has to have a place to go when it is not in use. That’s part of being organized when you don’t have that organization in place and you have too many things that means you have too much, there’s not a place for all of these items to have a home when they are not in use. That is how this works.

we have to start purging. You are in a position right now where the purging has to take place it has to happen To get yourself out of this situation where it feels overwhelming because you’re bogged down by all of this stuff. You’re going to start with removing the excess. You’re going to purge everything that you’re not using, or the things that you don’t want anymore. The things that you haven’t used in a long time, you will probably find things that you have never used.

Maybe they were a gift. You purchased them thinking that it would be useful, but you’ve never even used them. Before you can think about how things will be organized as the end result organization is one of the final steps before you think about how they will be organized. You have to do this part of the project. You have to put in the work of decluttering. I do have a free download that you can download. It’s called the practical purging projects.

The link is in the description. It’s a 10 day challenge and. Really look at this as a kickstart to starting your purging and decluttering projects, because there’s a different project. Every single day. It takes about 10 to 20 minutes to go through these projects the, Download that you will get explains how you would do this, and it gives you some tips for decluttering. It’s great. you can download it. complete that process go through each day of the challenge. If the 10 day [00:08:00] challenge happens to take you 14 days instead of 10 days, because you’re busy and you can’t do it 10 days in a row. That is really not a big deal. The big deal is that you get through all 10 days and you remove the excess from your homes. You donate it, you toss the trash and then you move on and you keep going that practical bridging projects. is a great way for you to start this process. When you have been feeling overwhelmed and you don’t know what to do, you have the idea in your mind, you have the concept that you have to purge, but you really don’t know what to do. Start with that. And it will get you in the group. It’s a great way to begin a decluttering journey when you are at this place where you really want change, but you’re stuck and you don’t know what to do.

You want more for your home. You want it to be less messy. You don’t want to feel overwhelmed all the time and you need to start this project. Project, but the thought of tackling this big project, it’s really the entire house. when you think of something like that, you almost become paralyzed with. Even the thought of beginning, because it seems like such a big deal. So if that seems like you Start with the practical Persian projects. go through that 10 day challenge have success fuel the success. Celebrate your accomplishments. If you are on social media, share with me on social media, tag me at intentional edit on Instagram or share in the Facebook group. A picture of the before and after, or just a picture of the progress. If you’re embarrassed with the before and move on from there, celebrate these successes because each day that you go through these projects, that is a big success. When you have cleared. Items out of your home that are burdening you now celebrate those wins. Those are little wins every single day in order to get to that end result of an orderly and organized home, because that’s what you really want. You don’t just want to clean out your shoes or clean out your junk drawer. You want the big results you want to get from this [00:10:00] stuck discouraged place right now with the messy home, with too much stuff in it. To that orderly and organized home. That looks good. Where you could find the thing is that you’re looking for when you need it. where your systems and your routines are working so that people are putting things away instead of leaving them out all of the time. And that happens. With a multi-step process, you have to do the purging. set up the systems and routines and put organization in place. your goal is to have an organized and orderly home that is simple to maintain it because it gives you time back. It gives you a life back Uh, home that truly functions for your family. Uh, combines the decluttering, the organizing, and the creating of those intentional routines. But right now you’re at the very beginning, you’re at the first steps and the first steps are the purging. click on that link for the practical purging projects.

download that it’s a free resource, then you could start that challenge. As soon as you download it, you could finish a project today. As you move through those 10 days of the challenge, you will start to feel the success and the weight is lifted that can help you get into the process for more de-cluttering projects down the road and before you know it you will be looking back at this time thanking yourself for starting and taking the first step to remove some of the clutter and the excess from your home
