(01:36):
Hey mamas. Welcome back to another episode of the intentional edit podcast. This is episode 35. I want you to, to take a minute before we dive in today, think about your struggles. Think about what you’re struggling with at home. Think about what causes you frustration. What are you doing in the moments? What is happening in the moments when you feel frustrated, irritated, and like you are at your wits end, take a few seconds. What was the first thing that came into your mind? What did you think of? When I asked that question? This can be at home. It can be in the car. It can be when you’re out and about with your kids, what’s happening, where are you? What is going on? Whatever you just thought of that was causing you to you feel irritable or struggle. I want you to ask me that question so that I can answer it and come up with some solutions for you on a future episode, how you’re gonna do that is wherever you are listening to this podcast.
(02:38):
You’re gonna scroll down into the description for the intentional edit podcast and click on the link to my website. It’s intentional edit.com. When you’re on the website, a little button pops up that says record. Now you click that button and then another button pops up that says start recording. Once you press that button, leave me the question or tell me what you thought of when I just asked you where you’re struggling. What irritates you when you feel overwhelmed and ask me, or tell me what was it that popped into your head at that moment? And I’m going to take those questions and answer your specific question about what is going on for you and your struggles with your family or home. It doesn’t matter if it is a specific routine that you need set up. If you are overwhelmed by clutter and need help with decluttering and purging, if it’s systems, whatever it is, I’m going to answer those questions on future tip Tuesday episodes go to intention.com right now, click on the record.
(03:41):
Now button that pops up and then you start recording. Leave me those. I receive those just like a voicemail. And I will answer those on a future episode. I want you to know that I hear you. You’re struggling to get it all done, and I’m here to help you. That’s why this podcast exists. I started this podcast out of a need for what I was seeing when I was going into homes of families that were struggling with the same things over and over again. And I’m listening to what you’re saying in conversations through direct messages and emails that I’m getting. And I’m hearing the same things in one-on-one coaching calls. That’s why people are booking the coaching calls with me because you wanna do it all without feeling burnout and exhausted. During those calls, we’re putting plans together to simplify daily tasks. That’s huge. Routines are game changing.
(04:35):
If you haven’t listened to most of the episodes yet, go back and listen to episode 10. It will explain to you why a good evening routine sets you up for a great day and truly a good evening routine is essential to a great day. The next day, it explains to you what a good evening routine looks like. And it gives you examples of things that people do in a short amount of time at night, and to have a good day, the next day, the evening routine sets you up for success. It sets you up so that your next day can be efficient and productive with less effort. And it drastically reduces your stress. When you have these things in place. If you listen to that episode and you are totally lost and don’t know how to do set up an evening room routine for yourself, grab a coaching session with me.
(05:24):
We can knock out an evening routine that is customized to your family in one session, and probably even go a little further. Sometimes we do two evening routines and or two routines in one session for different parts of your day, or I give you a purging plan and a routine. But if you are struggling time to end the struggle you’re worth it. Your family is worth it. Let’s get you on the path to a simplified home and simplified family life so that you can start enjoying more and stressing less episode 22 is another good one. And it’s all about motivation to help you keep going. When you’re trying to simplify your home and declutter, I’m looking at this spreadsheet I have with all of the episodes at episode 26. Also check that one out too, go check those out. Listen to them. They have valuable information that will help you when you’re having these struggles. And you can, everything that is shared in this episode, you can implement into your life. If you need more help, you want some one-on-one guidance than just book a coaching session with me and we’ll knock as much out as we can in that time to make specific plans for your family, to get you to that simplified home, that you’re, you’re wanting.
(06:39):
How is it possible to do it all? You wanna be a good mom, keep the house in someone of an order and clean, eat healthy meals and have at least some dinners together. As a family, create good memories, date nights, self care, and you don’t wanna feel burned out. You’re tired of feeling overwhelmed and burn out, but you have to day up to date, getting your work done and managing the every day. I hear you. And I sympathize with you because I hear what you’re saying. You want a simpler lifestyle, a clean, organized home to, to feed your family nutritious meals, to enjoy spending time with them, but you’re overwhelmed and you get frustrated cause you’re struggling with how to make that happen. I get it. And I understand let’s come up with solutions, some solutions for you that you can walk away from listening to this episode with and try in your own life for a minute. Think about what is the vision you have for your family and your really think, what is that vision? What are these things you’re dreaming of? And why are these things that you want important?
(07:49):
Why aren’t they happening? Or why aren’t they happening yet? When you envision this lifestyle, why are these things important to you with your in mind? I first want you to check your mindset when we feel overwhelmed and burdened and like that candle’s burning at both ends. And we’re about to burn out. Even simple things become a burden. Is everything a burden to you? Or are you still in a mindset where you can appreciate the little things? When people at the point of burnout, it doesn’t take much to add to the overwhelmed and stressed out feelings. If you are walking up the stairs in your house to change another diaper, you might be annoyed or frustrated that it’s time to change another dirty diaper. And then you see that your toddler has managed to take all of the clothes that you just folded out of the dirty laundry basket and has them spread all over the hallway floor.
(08:46):
Then you are reminded that your kindergartner has a project to finish and it’s due tomorrow and it’s not done yet. It’s not even started all of these little things that in a simplified home you could tackle because you have routines and systems in place. Wouldn’t be a big deal, but when you’re not to that place, yet they can be what pushes you over the tipping point. They can be a big stress are one way you can eliminate that or reduce those feelings is by shifting your mindset. Mindset is huge because if you look at things like the dirty diaper example, as not something that you have to do, but something that you get to do, you get to have these moments with your baby’s while they’re young, you get to be with them. Instead of working long hours, the school project is could, could be a similar example.
(09:44):
You get to do these things. It might not be your number one choice to do, but when you think of the things that have to be done in terms of something that you get to do or something that you able to do, rather than something that you have to do, things aren’t as overwhelming as they would be. So a simple shift in your mindset can be huge and extremely helpful to you while you are on the journey to simplifying and creating the life. That is the vision that you imagine. In the last episode, episode 34, I talked about calendars and scheduling and how you can simplify that. They’re all about those schedules and the calendars and how to manage it for your entire family. Listen to that episode. And it will help you improve your time management, manage your schedule. It’s not overwhelmed and make sure your priorities are in the right place.
(10:40):
But most importantly, it gets you thinking about what you are committing to. It helps you start saying no to things that don’t fit the lifestyle that you just imagined. If it doesn’t get you to your end goal of the simplified family that you desire, then stop agreeing to it. Stop saying, yes, you don’t need to squeeze it in. You don’t need to make it happen. If it doesn’t get you to the end result that you’re wanting, don’t feel guilty. I’m giving you permission right now to not feel guilty about saying no to things or not volunteering for things or committing to things that don’t help you get to the end result, which is the lifestyle that you are envisioning for your family. You can blame me the next time that you don’t sign up for the bake sale or to be room mom, or to go to the 10th birthday party for first graders.
(11:35):
This semester free up your time. And having downtime is a form of self care. It’s important for you. It’s important for your family. And it’s okay to say no to things that don’t fit the lifestyle that you are trying to create. The first thing I recommended that you do was shift your mindset. So look at things from a glass half full perspective, instead of a glass half empty. Think about what you get to do instead of what you have to do. The second thing that I want you to focus on to stay motivated is start saying, no, you don’t have to do everything. And the third thing that I wanna talk about today is you have this life that you envision and the same things come up with all of my coaching sessions or most of them with most of the direct messages and emails that I get, the conversations that I have with moms, just like you.
(12:27):
It’s very similar struggles, struggles of getting it all done. There’s so many of things that you are saying that, uh, it’s like, uh, listening on repeat because when you feel exhausted, you feel like you’re about to burn out or explode. It’s little things that are causing these stresses. You don’t have enough time in the day. There’s not enough order in your house. There’s too much clutter in your home. Your home doesn’t stay clean or organized. You find like you’re running late a lot, or you don’t have any time for yourself. You don’t have any time to go on date nights or spend time as a couple. The self care is non-existent. You don’t have enough time to work out that you feel like you’re always on the go or feed your kids chicken nuggets over and over again, because you don’t have time to have a good dinners on the table every night. You’re never eating together at the table. As a family, you there’s so much that you want to change. And so many things that you are at a loss of where to start, how do you address these, these things and how do you get to that place? Where things seem easier and it’s a simpler lifestyle.
(13:42):
This is number three. I want you to break these things down. Don’t think about the big picture and having to make all these changes at one time, break the things down that you want to, to have happen into manageable steps. When we see what the problem is or what the issue is or where the lack is, then we have to create a solution for that thing. If you are struggling to get out the door on time, get to work on time, get your kids to school on time. If you’re frustrated with things are happening in the morning hours, then we tackle that by in two ways, we create a great morning routine and an even better evening routine. These routines just become systems in your house that are running the ship. If you will. That’s why I mentioned those episodes earlier in the podcast and said go by and listen to the episodes, especially episode 10 about the evening routines.
(14:41):
Because when you break it down into spa, small manageable tasks, the things that are overwhelming are not so overwhelming anymore. Once you create a solid evening routine, then we eliminate some of the stressors throughout the day. Routines are huge. You will always hear me say that over and over again, but what else is bothering you? What else? Something that comes up is a lot is what you’re feeding your kids. How to have time to make dinners when you’re running carpool schedules, or you have a fussy baby in the evening hours that comes from a good meal plan. It can be super simple. And all you have to do is create reusable meal plans with corresponding grocery lists. I will do an episode on that coming up because it is a life changer. When you can use these things over and over again, and you don’t have to think about dinner.
(15:34):
You pull out a page, you pull up a document on your phone and you can use those things over and over again. You have to find ways to simplify. So if the, the nutrition and the dinner time is one of the issues, then a good meal planning system where you’re creating reusable plans. I can teach you how to do that. I will put that on the list for upcoming episodes soon so that we can knock that out. Or a few of a meal planning system. That’s easy for you that doesn’t take you more than 15 minutes a week. Then go to that right now. That’s something else. You can start implementing whatever the struggle is. We have to, to find the solution for it. And usually the solution is pretty simple. But when you have not just one or two things that are causing you stress, and that are a problem, and there’s a whole bunch of them piling on top of each other one, after another, after another, the overwhelm comes in, the unbearable stress comes and the feeling is that that are overwhelming to you are happening because there’s so many things.
(16:39):
When you break it down into manageable steps and you tackle each of these issues individually, then you will see the changes happen. I want to remind you of something. If you come up with five things that are the top issues that you’re struggl with, and that’s where your stress is coming from, please, don’t try to make changes for all five of those things. In the same day, you have to give yourself time. If you choose the evening routine as the thing that you are going to do to set yourself up for success, the next day, implement that evening routine for at least weeks, two weeks of doing that 14 days in a row using the routine that you created, tweaking it. If you need to, because it might not be perfect the first time you might need to make some adjustments to it. And once you have done that for two weeks, then you can introduce the next thing.
(17:31):
It takes 30 days minimum to create, to have it. So we don’t wanna make all these changes at once. I want you to do one at a time and then add another. Once you have done something for a minimum of 14 days in a row, then you can add the second change. When you have a big desire and a big lifestyle change that you have envisioned where you have a home that stays relatively clean and a huge reduction in the amount of clutter that’s in your home. When you’re desiring time to spend as a family where you’re making long lasting memories and things seem more than they are right now and not so hard. This is a big thing. This isn’t a little thing that you’re trying to change. You have to break it down into manageable tasks to have success with it. And when you shift your mindset, you start saying no to the things that don’t fit, the lifestyle that you envision, and you break down the salute into manageable steps.
(18:31):
That’s when you have success. Remember at the beginning of the episode, when I asked you to stop for a minute and think about what are you doing when you feel overwhelmed? What are you doing when you feel irritated and stressed out? What is happening? Where are you is the situation. And I asked you to submit that question to me so that I could help you find a solution and find an answer on a future episode of the podcast. I want you to think back to what you thought about then, and some of the things that came up were you, whatever came up first, a few things probably flooded your mind. I want you to pick one of those, which one is the most irritating, which one bothers you the most. And start there determine what is most important by going back to those thoughts that you had.
(19:28):
And start there, find to the solution and work through that for two weeks, take the two weeks, make modifications if necessary. And then we add the second one, but don’t start the second one until that first one is working and you’re seeing a positive change because of that first thing that you implemented. So you have to break down these tasks into manageable steps to see success. And this helps you stay motivated when you change your mindset. Yes, that helps you stay motivated because you are in a different space mentally, when you start saying no to things, you can, you feel empowered and you feel really good. You at first, it doesn’t seem natural. If you are a people pleaser and someone who is always volunteering and signing up and saying yes to everything and making it happen. But by doing that, you’re taking away from your life.
(20:29):
You’re taking away from the goals the, that you have and the life that you’re envisioning for your home and your family. So when you start to say no, after you do that, a couple of times, you’re gonna start to feel really good. And you will see the benefits of that. And when you start that third thing that I said, where you need to break these problems down into finding solutions in small manageable steps, then don’t forget to determine what is most important and start there with the simple changes and the simple modifications of things that will be the solutions for that home and lifestyle that you are envisioning. The last thing that I want you to do, this is the fourth step of the process. I want you to find a way to have some accountability. If you are gonna make these big changes, what is going to keep you to that?
(21:25):
I have a couple options for you. You can always find a friend or reach out to a friend or family member and say, this is what I’m doing. Let them know you are stressed out. And you are trying to make simple changes to create the home atmosphere and the lifestyle that you want for your family. And the first thing you’re doing is creating an evening routine. Or the first thing you’re doing is mastering your schedules and calendars. Or the first thing you’re doing is a major purge of the cluttered areas in your home. It doesn’t matter what the first step is. It doesn’t matter what you choose to be the first area that you tackle, because it should be specific to your family. And I like to start with the areas that are causing the most problems or where the most issues are when you have determined that, and it’s specific and personalized to your family and you, that’s where you start.
(22:26):
It’s fine. If you have a, a real life person that you want to reach out to and let them know, this is what I’m doing, and I want to have an accountability partner. Can you be that person? If I’m feeling like I don’t wanna do this, or I’m having a problem with it, then I wanna text you, just send you a text and just say something back, send me a response that will keep me on track. That will keep me motivated. Something as simple as you can do it. Don’t give up something like that. That’s one option for you for an account’s ability partner. The other thing that I think might be better is to join the Facebook group. You can go to my Facebook group. It only has a few members because it’s barely a week old. It is a Facebook group that I created to connect with listeners.
(23:18):
It’s specific for the intentional edit podcast. If you go to Facebook, you can search deep letter, organize and create systems to simplify your home and life. Join that group, and then make a post go in there. And comment, make a post for yourself. Say that you are looking for accountability, or you listen to episode 35. And the area that you are starting with in your home is whatever it is, the evening routine, a morning routine, a home or routine decluttering your home, whatever it is, it doesn’t matter because there’s no right or wrong here. It’s personalized to the needs of your family and the needs that you think are the most important to get to the goals of the home and lifestyle that you’re are envisioning. Go join that Facebook group and then create a post and share what it is that you’re doing. And give us updates.
(24:12):
If you don’t create a post initially, that’s fine, but give us an update and say, I’m on week two or I’m on week three of my evening routine. I will comment to you other people in there we’ll comment to you. Not only is that gonna keep you motivated, but you will also be an inspiration and a motivating person for other people that are having the same struggles as you. We can motivate each other and keep each other on track. Let’s recap now quickly go over the things that we’ve talked about today. First to stay on track with these changes that you wanna make shift your mindset. The second thing you’re gonna do is start saying no. The third thing that you will do is break down the big issues into small manageable tasks and find solutions for the things that are problems, determine what is most important and start there.
(25:06):
And the fourth thing you’re going to do is find some way to have an accountability partner, whether it’s a person, you know, in real life, or you wanna head over to the Facebook group, join that. And we will be your accountability partner. Me and the other listeners. If the Facebook group is the route you’re going, which I would suggest it’s declutter organized and create systems to simplify your home and life. There’s a link in the show notes. You can scroll down to the bottom of this episode and click on the link. It’s one of the last things there, and that will take you right over to the Facebook group too. If you follow these steps and go back and listen to those other episodes that I mentioned, and any other episodes that have come out, check out my website, intentional, edit.com for other resources, too.
(25:54):
