Resisting changes. Normal making excuses is a common thing that so many people do. It’s easier to stay where you are to be complacent with how things currently are. But it is not serving us, making these decisions to not make a change is not serving us. Could it actually be doing more harm than good.
I will let you answer that. Improving our homes. And our live is by removing the clutter and getting organized is something that when we do it right and we follow a proven plan it has long-term positive effects that are far greater than anything that you are currently imagining right now
You’ve heard me talk about it being summer and being busy and our schedules all over the place. So if you’re one of the people that has asked me if you missed the Friday episode, [00:02:00] or where is the Friday episode? I am changing things up for July. I did mention this last week, during the month of July I’m only having one episode a week. So on Tuesdays, there will be a new episode with all kinds of information for you on a de-cluttering organized and getting those routines in place so that you can have an orderly and organized home and simplify everything in your life. You’re not missing anything. There’s only one episode a week just for a couple of weeks, right in the middle of summer. And then we will go back to normal with the two times a week episodes on Tuesday and Friday.
We have been traveling and had visitors. And I feel like it’s constant coming and going. I’m barely getting unpacked in the laundry done from one trip before I have the next thing. And that’s kind of how our summer has been since the day it started. I’m going to be completely honest with you. And I do feel a little bit frazzled and kind of out of sorts and not like myself, just because our schedule is so different than what it normally is.
And I know that the systems that I have in place, the routines. Jeans. That. Make my house function on a regular basis are helping me significantly to not waste time and to get right back into the swing of things on the days that we are home, so that I am not behind and overwhelmed. When I am at home between trips, between visitors.
Trying to get things prepared and still trying to do summer fun activities. When we are at home for those couple of days in between all of the traveling and all of the visitors. The other thing that makes this possible is that I took the time years ago to remove the clutter, to remove the excess and to organize everything. And because I did the three steps, the removing the items, which would be the purging, and then I organized properly. And then I took the time to implement the [00:04:00] routines that are now habits.
It’s just the way that we do things, where everything we get out has a home within my home. And we put. Put it back when we’re done using it, we have a place for everything we all have responsibilities that take literally just seconds a day. But because we are in the group and we know what to do because I was intentional setting these things up in my own home.
It makes it possible for us to go more or plan a spontaneous event, whether it’s just a night or a day or a weekend away. And all of these things are able to happen without me wanting to lose my mind and pull my hair out because of the routines. And the fact that our home is not filled with clutter.
If you, you are wanting to have these benefits in your life too, you know what to do, you know, what options I have available to you? What. And we’re going to get into that a little bit more in this episode. On one of our trips, we were at the airport and I saw someone wearing his t-shirt how to phrase on it. I took a quick glance and it said, if nothing changes, then nothing changes.
I saw that and it kind of summed to me for a second. I re-read it thinking that I had read it wrong. And again, it said. If nothing changes, then nothing changes. It was like an instant reminder for me that we have the power to change almost everything, really, almost anything that we’d want to. And if we’re not taking an active role to change something,
We’re choosing to live with that problem or with that issue, we have the ability to make a change. Well, we also have to make a choice and be dedicated to that decision and follow through with that decision, we have to be proactive and take initiative and actually take the steps that move us forward in the direction of that desired result.
No. I know as easier said than done, it’s easy [00:06:00] to think of something it and dream about that end result. But taking action is the difficult part in terms of how this applies to our home. You are here. You’re listening to this podcast. You come back week after week because you want solutions. You want your home to be organized.
You hopefully are taking a lot of the things that I share here. There’s actionable steps on every episode that you can take and you can implement in your home. And hopefully you are using a lot of what you’re hearing and you’re already implementing it. You want to have less stuff everywhere. You want to learn how to get this stuff, the items, the access out of your home and not be surrounded by things that you don’t need, or you don’t use, or maybe you don’t even like the stuff anymore.
If you’ve been listening to the intentional edit podcast for some time, you know that in order to be organized in order to reduce your stress in order to feel better in your house, You have to reduce the clutter. You need to reduce the clutter. That means purging. That means decluttering. You know that I always talk about these three things that you have to combine. The three things I just mentioned them. I’ll say it again. The three things I always talk about, they work together to reduce clutter. They work together to make it possible, to get you organized.
And create those habits of long-term success so that your family can live in a home with less clutter. Uh, home with less mess, with less stress, and it gives you the ability to have more time to enjoy things and just to be together without feeling like there’s always something hanging over your head and something that needs to be done. I just shared how I applied that in my life years ago. And it made a significant change and you have the ability or the resources are here for you to live a simplified life as well.
If you’re here listening but you’re not taking action. You heard what I said with that? T-shirt. I read those words. If [00:08:00] nothing changes, then nothing changes. I’m sharing that here today to be a reminder for you. Like they were for, me when I read that, because if nothing changes, then nothing changes. And that can apply to so many areas of our life. Really anything that we’re striving to do better in or do different or have a different result. That statement can apply. So if you don’t start, if you don’t do just one thing, then you can never get to that end result that we talk about that big accomplishment, that thing that we really wanted to happen, that big desire. in reality, if you don’t change anything that you can’t even make progress and making progress is better than staying stuck, you want to have a chance to see even the tiniest of improvements because.
You are choosing to stay the same. If you’re not making a change. you won’t even get to see those tiny improvements. You’re choosing to not make the change. You have to invest in yourself. You have to get a plan. You have to start and stick with the plan in order to see the end results in order to make the changes that you want.
Right now you are listening to this because you know, you can feel better. You know, your home can look better and be more functional. You know, your family is capable of putting things away. And if the decluttering is a done. Then everything in your home will have a place. It has a home within your home, just like in my house.
Everything we bring into our house. Is given a place to be put away, you know, that you don’t have to be in that constant phase of running late, always being behind a scrambling to catch up. And you feel stressed out about hubs. Solutely everything. Well, you’re also doing in this situation. If you have it made that decision to make a change is you’re hanging on. You’re hanging on to the way it [00:10:00]currently is. You’re hanging on to the home that you complain about. You’re hanging on to the mess that literally makes you crazy.
You’re hanging on to the clutter that irritates you and makes you feel like a failure. It makes you embarrassed that people over makes you feel like you always have this constant to do list of things that needed to be done, that you don’t want to do. You know, the benefits of an orderly and organized home have, because you see them, you have seen these over and over again.
You might even remember what it’s like, if you had the situation of the, before home, before your current situation got out of hand, what it felt like to have a home that didn’t have toys everywhere that was more picked up than it is now. And you know that if you put in the work, the results are wonderful.
They will be worth it, but. You’re hanging on to something right now you’re hanging onto what is, and that’s also something that we could say you’re making excuses, you’re making excuses to stay the way that it currently is to stay in this current situation. Because you haven’t started making the changes.
So I’m going to pause here and ask you, what are you waiting for? This episode is really a reminder to you of how you can get to from the stuck place you are. To that end result. And I’m going to share some things that can help you. But really a reminder of if nothing changes, then nothing changes.
In order to transfer your home to that new version, that home that you dream about and to improve your surroundings and improve your life to best fit the season of life that your family is currently in. You have to let go of the old. And you really have to move forward, make the changes that are necessary and embrace the new, get excited about what the future holds and really embrace the new that is coming for you. If you choose to make the changes. [00:12:00]
You’ve heard me talk a little bit last week about a challenge that I created that is a five week challenge. That is something that can help you get going. It is really a low investment because it only takes minimal minutes every single week. But it will help you see the benefits of de-cluttering small spaces the very first week, right after you do the first task. So what happens is you can make a choice today.
Things can stay exactly the way that they currently are. The house stays messy. There’s stuff everywhere. You waste time looking for things that you need, you can’t find them. So you’re wasting more time and more time. Your family waste of money buying items that you already have because you forgot about them. Or maybe you simply can’t find them among the mess.
You can stay in this stock and continue to feel stressed out and overwhelmed at home. And with the simple day-to-day tasks, like laundry meal, prep, cleaning toys being out in everywhere. Adult responsibility is running a household. Or you can say today is the day. Where I’m going to make a change. I’m going to start this new version.
I want to make this change. Today is day one of the new version of myself, where I get to spend a few minutes each day, making progress towards a less cluttered, more organized home. And that house will allow you to feel more peaceful and less stressed out all the time. An easy way to reduce the mess and to really stress less is to take advantage of this five week challenge. It is only five weeks that such a short commitment in the grand scheme of things.
Each week in this challenge, if you sign up for it, you will do a different purging task that reduces the clutter in one small area of your home. What is really great about this is it. Doesn’t leave you there. With the possibility of [00:14:00] that clutter returning, because at that point, once you have decluttered the space.
I teach you how to apply an easy habit to maintain this clutter-free area. That would be week one. Then in week two, we repeat the same process and we will do a second de cluttering project. So you declutter something else. And then you have a, another. Simple habit or symbol routine that makes it possible for you to not allow the clutter to come back in.
You will repeat this process each week for five weeks. But each week I have you tackle a different area. These areas are small and they do not take a lot of time to declutter, but they make a big impact because there are areas in your home that you see and you use every single day.
by the end of each week, you’ve taken a few minutes to declutter and learn what to do with that routine to keep the clutter from returning in that area of your home. And this is so simple. It takes very little time each week. It’s a low commitment because once again, it’s only five weeks, but the impact is a long-term impact.
If you choose to keep it up and these things are so insignificant. And the amount of time that they take throughout your day, that they just become part of how you function and how your day goes every single day. And it’s making progress towards your end goal. All of that orderly, organized home, that functions for you and your family and is not full of clutter. If you stop listening to this episode and you choose not to sign up, you are making the decision to stay stuck. You’re making the decision to not make any changes.
The simple home habits, five week challenge. It seemed minimal investment to yourself, to your family. To your home. it truly can kickstart your house. By giving it the opportunity to get some of the clutter out.[00:16:00] you can have less clutter and have a home that is more picked up and that in turn helps you to have a home that functions better and you can finally be a little bit less crabby all the time.
Because that mess is driving you crazy and it’s stressing you out. So right now, based on that, t-shirt that I saw in the airport, you have two choices. You can continue to not make any changes by not doing anything different. Or you can choose right now to sign up for the simple home habits, five week challenge.
It is self-paced so you can start it today or you can start it next week. If you’re listening to this and you happen to be walking on the beach on vacation, you can still get it now. And then start when you get back, if you are home for two or three weeks, and then you’ll be traveling, adjust the challenge, do it for three, two or three weeks that you’re home.
And then skip a week when you’re out of town and pick up right where you left off. This is something that it doesn’t matter if it takes you six or seven weeks to get through the five week challenge. The point is that you are doing something to get you one step closer to that end result.
You are making progress. And you’re making improvements. You’re improving that condition of your home by participating in the challenge. If you think I don’t need this challenge, I can do that on my own. They make a commitment right now to exactly what you’re decluttering and what are the habits that you need to have in place. What are those routines that you need to do in order to keep the area that you do clutter to keep it clutter-free for the most part, if you don’t.
Have the routines to keep it clutter-free the clutter will creep back in. And that’s why this challenge is so important because it gives you both of those steps. You’re making changes so everything can change. Rather than nothing changing at all. There is a link in the podcast description. If you want to sign up for the simple [00:18:00] foam habits, five weeks challenge, it is self paced. So start it today. Started in a week, started in two weeks.
All you have to do is sign up. You get automatically all the information. And to you, see everything you need or right away. So you could have join me in clutter-free living in a home that serves the needs of your family and lets you live your best life without being overwhelmed and stressed out all the time because of the mess at home.
I believe that your organized home is closer than you think, but you have to put in the work, you have to put in the effort to make the change. And you have to start with the decluttering, but the decluttering won’t work unless you spend at the time. To organize your space and get those routines locked in. So they become a habit that just takes you seconds each day to maintain that is the goal. I hope you are having a great summer and i hope to see you and the simple home habits a five week challenge if you have questions make sure you send me a message i am here to help you let’s get your home decluttered and organized so that it can stay organized and orderly for many many years to come
